Norfolk Terminal Congestion Update

Please be advised that the Virginia Port Authority has informed us that they are continuing to work through significant inventory back-log as a result of the recent winter weather.  They are experiencing very heavy gate volume at Virginia International Gateway (VIG). Turn times on average this week are approximately 73 minutes.  They are forecasting the situation will continue throughout the remainder of the week and into next,  with terminal capacity levels remaining high as they work with ocean carriers and other partners to reduce inventory and increase fluidity.

In an effort to support the recovery and prevent further backlog, the Port of Virginia will extend the hours at Virginia International Gateway (VIG) until 9:00 PM for the remainder of the week (Thursday, March 12th and Friday, March 13th ). Additionally, normal Saturday gate hours will be observed this week. They are also offering gate hours on Sunday, March 15th, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The PPCY hours will mirror those of VIG March 11th-15th  for empty returns. The gate will close at 8:00 PM on March 11th, 12th and 13th and at 4 p.m. on March 14th and 15th.  We should encourage customers to utilize these additional hours to the best extent possible to support the recovery process.
