Dockworkers on Strike at Chittagong Port Authority in Bangladesh

The dockworkers strike at Chittagong Port Authority has been called to start again on Wednesday and continue to Friday until 0600 hours.  Cargo inflow has been lower than usual and we expect that there will be a rush of cargo coming in on Friday which may lead to delays.  We will contiue to provide updates as the situation develops. Bangladesh Nationwide Strike – Garment Factory Protests

Update 03 – December 17, 2013 / 1200 hrs (12:oopm):

  • Opposition alliance has again called for a 72 hour continuous road-rail-waterways blockade from December 17 to December 20
  • Volume of cargo movement from Dhaka to Chittagong has increased last week, however cargo movement will most likely be affected during this new blockade
  • Port operation is normal
  • If no political settlement between government and opposition political parties, we anticipate ongoing unrest to continue in some form at least until the end of the next general election scheduled on January 5, 2014
